A Family for Vanya

Application Vanya needs a permanent family to adopt him - the process for which can take up to a year. We are not expecting lots of applications, as we have been told that it is nearly impossible for an older boy with special needs to be adopted. But, with God’s help, ALL things are possible. He is a great kid who will bring much joy and life to a special family! The application process is as follows: 1 Please read through the website. If you have further general questions, please email them to afamilyforvanya@yahoo.com. Due to privacy issues, more specific information about Vanya can only be given to those who have submitted a letter of interest and have been briefly interviewed by phone. 2 Please submit an email of interest to afamilyforvanya@yahoo.com. Please just tell us briefly about you and your family, where you live, your faith, your contact info, why you are interested in Vanya and why you might be a good family for him. 3 We will respond to your letter of interest and be available to answer more specific questions. You will receive a copy of “frequently asked questions.” If you are still interested, an application will be sent to you and you will have an opportunity to meet Vanya. For approved applicants, Vanya could possibly come visit you in your home for a weekend. Approved applicants will also have the opportunity to review Vanya’s complete medical history file (Russian and American.) The foster family application process will be much more brief and less extensive than the adoption process. 4 Submit application along with an application fee of approximately $200 (for adoption application only.) The application process will include: • Questions about you and your family’s values, your marriage, your finances and background. • A credit and background check, including fingerprinting. • References-including pastoral, personal and work. • 1-2 home study visits (someone will interview you in your home): one by members of Lucas Valley Community Church and the other by a local accredited adoption agency. 5 Applicants will be notified about results of selection process. The selected application will be forwarded onto an agency (Catholic Social Services: Charlotte, NC Dioceses) that facilitates international adoption in Vanya’s region in Russia. The process from this point takes about 7-9 months and involves preparation of the many legal documents and 1-2 visits to Russia with Vanya and both adoptive parents. The total cost of the adoption will be about $17-$20,000. Efforts are currently underway to raise as much funds as possible to help defray the adoption costs.
